About Us

SNOLAB is a unique world-class international facility for deep underground scientific research.

Located 2km underground in the Vale Creighton mine, near Sudbury, Ontario, SNOLAB hosts a

suite of surface facilities and laboratories including a 5000m2 clean room underground. The science programme at SNOLAB is primarily focussed on subatomic and astroparticle physics, specifically the search for dark matter and neutrino studies.

The Position

The Cleaner will provide high quality cleaning and light maintenance services for SNOLAB underground laboratory areas and clean-room laboratories and the surface building including its clean-room laboratories. This will include cleaning at heights utilizing ladders, elevating scissor work platforms, and one-person man—lifts. Provide dedicated entire surface wipe downs of materials entering the underground lab. Provide light maintenance for SNOLAB including catch basin cleanouts, minor repairs, painting, collecting/sealing/packaging waste bags for shipping, doing laundry, moving furniture, equipment and supplies within the labs and similar lab upkeep. This will require lifting, carrying and moving/arranging items while standing, stooping, crawling and kneeling.

Criteria

Education:

Candidate should have a minimum of Grade 12 plus relevant training.

Experience:

Experience in custodial like duties, and

A minimum of 6 months of experience in commercial/institutional building cleaning and/or light building equipment maintenance.

Salary Range

Salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and includes an attractive benefits package.  This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between the SNOLAB Institute and the United Steelworkers Local 2020. To meet operational needs, shift work may be required.
