About Us

SNOLAB is an international facility for world-class underground physics research and has an expanding programme in astroparticle physics and underground science.  Located in an air-conditioned clean room 2 km underground in the VALE Creighton Mine near Lively, Ontario, with a suite of surface facilities and laboratories, SNOLAB is currently preparing for this next generation of experiments.

The Position

As a certified tradesperson, you will be working in an environment that will allow you to provide technical expertise for the design, fabrication, construction, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of stationary industrial machinery, piping, experiment components, construction activities, cryogenic systems or mechanical equipment.

The position requires an individual who will take pride in their final product, has the initiative to develop unique ideas, has the desire to learn new skills and has the capacity to embrace challenges that arise as a result of setting up one-of-a-kind experiments and generation of required work documentation whether for quoting, purchase order input or completing workplans/test records. 

Specifically, the position will allow the successful candidate to gain significant experience with the installation of new lab infrastructure; hydrostatic/pneumatic testing, replacing or repairing defective components or systems; the setup of hoisting and rigging; preventive maintenance; fabrication of items to support the lab and its experiments; and to operate equipment.



Grade 12 diploma and an Ontario certification in a relevant trade is required.


Experience as a certified tradesperson in an industrial or construction setting;

Experience in Machining is an asset;

Experience in Hoisting and Rigging is an asset;

Experience in the Millwright trade is an asset.

Salary Range 

Salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and includes an attractive benefits package. Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with SNOLAB policies. This position is covered by the Collective Agreement between the SNOLAB Institute and the United Steelworkers Local 2020. To meet operational needs, shift work may be required.
